Breed Standards

While we may show primarily within AKC, that does not mean we do not value the NihonKen Hozonkai (NIPPO) standard. NIPPO is the primary registry for the Kishu Ken, and as such, we will always do our best to follow and honor that standard over other registering bodies. There are many nuances that do not translate directly, yet are still important and defining factors of the breed. The next paragraph is directly from NIPPO:

"Kan-i, ryōsei, and soboku are extremely important essential traits of the Nihon Ken. Kan-i means spirited, with an air of authority. Ryōsei, loyal and subordinate. Soboku is a word that describes a basic and innate quality of the Nihon Ken: unadorned, modest refinement and dignified disposition."
